World Market Report - 9/1/2008

August, long known as the “dog days of summer” was just that for the currencies as the dollar staged a one-month rally to beat the band. This has been one swift, strong and relentless rally by the dollar, leading many to believe the weak dollar trend for the dollar had ended. And it may have… But I doubt it! And I’ll give you all kinds of reasons to agree with me as we journey through this month’s Review & Focus!

I look at it like this: Currency diversification is something that every U.S. investment portfolio needs. And this one is simply just another method of reaching that goal of diversification for one's portfolio. I truly believe that countries that have a positive balance of payments, or those that are taking steps to narrow their deficit are countries that should have a strong currency. As for right now... I truly believe that the Central Bank Intervention to keep the dollar from spinning out of control has taken hold of the markets, but as the dust settles on all of this, the fundamentals will come to the top once again, and the dollar will return to the underlying weak trend.
